Social Security has been working very well for 60 plus years. Just because the Republicans don’t like it and want to brand it as a failure….doesn’t make it true. S.S. has been a resounding success and has pulled millions of elderly out of poverty since it’s inception. Nice try though!

This is a right-wing myth. Every American – even non-citizens – pays taxes. They pay state and local sales taxes, federal, state and local gas taxes, property taxes (directly or in rent), and FICA withholding. They may also pay state income taxes. And yes, they pay federal income taxes, less any deductions and credits for which they qualify. For many below-median-income workers, that includes the Earned Income Tax Credit, enacted under President Ford (a Republican) and expanded under President Reagan (another Republican). The EITC exists to subsidize lower-income labor, so businesses could hire employees at a discount.

If you’re so envious of them paying “no taxes,” you can join them in either of two ways. First, you could ask your boss to pay you less, so you qualify for the EITC. I’m sure your boss would be delighted. Alternatively, you could quit your job and start mowing lawns, mopping floors, washing dishes, or any of the many other low-income career fields that would maintain your eligibility for the EITC.

You obviously have learned your history from a Glenn Beck course. Marshall, Eisenhower, Hoover and Wilson all believed in the necessity for government to step in and assist in the safety net, in safeguarding food and water, in financing big projects meant to benefit all the people. That is all they needed to believe in for today’s Tea Partyers to deem them as worthless liberals.

Tragically Republicans have lost sight of civic responsibility, that virtue which recognizes any one in society stands on the shoulders of everyone in that society who helped build, educate, create laws & institutions, & fought to keep it free. If the GOP thinks society is so unimportant let them try to make a fortune living alone at the bottom of the grand canyon.

Wilson was gullible & later deeply regretted how the Allies handled Germany after WW1. Versailles Treaty? Was not exactly what Wilson had in mind–Germans signed peace treaty as believed Wilson, who was naive.

Apparently you didn’t get the memo re how many American individuals pay no taxes? That’s liberal too. OTOH, very profitable corporations often don’t either. Republicans can take credit for that. What was the make up of congress when it passed the Fed Reserve & IRS acts in 1913?
