I missed "Why this Decade Sucked," by Ed Edroso, back in December. Wish I hadn't. While it's over the top in spots, by and large, it's spot on, and reminds me of Norman Solomon's words in the mid 90s, when he quite rightly warned that the Internet would empower the status quo, while

I have created or heavily promoted several tags and codes that are in everyday use on Twitter, so I get asked a lot. "what does this or that mean?" I've listed the common ones below to save me some time and keystrokes in the future. If I've left out anything obvious that I use often,

In "Why Twitter Will Endure," New York Time's education and media czar, David Carr, writes perhaps the best overall description of Twitter and its overall value to civilization, better than anyone I've read in quite awhile. It's still not going to help your grandma understand Twitter, but it may help any of your

What is the BL code?
A proposed Message Code for Twitter and any social network.
The BL code means "broken link." It tells someone that a link they sent out was defective.
Geekly speaking, it should be "resource," but I won't get into why. I think the average Twitter user can remember,

I am trying to move to Chrome full time, but there are still not enough extensions to mimic what I do in Firefox, so I'm not quite there yet. But there are some good extensions coming online, and I will try and save you some time by recommending the best-of-breed that I've found, thus far.

It's just a much shorter version of the familiar #followFriday hashtag seen far too often on Twitter (and now other social networks, as well). And

If your Twitter name is suddenly tweeting spam or sending DM spam, your account has been compromised in some way.
This is usually due to your having authorized some unscrupulous App vendor, either by entering your password, or simply "allowing" it to connect to your account via Twitter's oAuth system.
The Fix
Change your password immediately.

I just hate being right sometimes… wait, no I don't.
I love Twitter. Let's be clear on that. But we can be critical of the things we love.
The reviews are already coming fast on "Project Retweet," and they're not pretty.
After the brief status blurb from CNET below,

The new Twitter retweet system has been unleashed, and it's a classic example of taking something that worked, and breaking it. Rather than simplify something most regular Twitter users understood and used rather creatively, they have now created a hybrid pastiche of behaviors where retweets will mean different things to different people, depending on how

Social networks are here to stay, and so is your Twitter name. While it’s too early to say how social media is going to evolve, I am betting that Twitter names will become most people’s key public identity for many years to come, if not forever. That’s one reason I try to use “Shoq” wherever
