Donate to the Relief Effort
Many relief efforts online are scams. I'm not a fan of endless lists of relief agencies you might throw money at. I think most people just want to donate where they know it will do some good.
I don't think you can go wrong by giving money to any of these, but if you have doubts, or there are other organizations that you want to check on, see the Validation info in next section.
- Progressives For Haiti — Center for American Progress and a coalition of progressive organization who are passing donations on to mission critical agencies (with no commission). I would strongly recommend this course, if you want to feel that your contribution is likely to count.
- Doctors Without Borders — This is one of my preferred charities. They do amazing work, and spend peanuts on admin.

- NPR guide to Relief Efforts
- Red Cross Interactive — You can text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts in #haiti. I am hesitant about this, and therefore, not linking directly, because as with Yele.org, there is an interactive middleman (mgive.org), and It's hard to know what percentage of what goes where. There's not a lot of disclosure from these new media giving projects.
- International Red Cross — If you're still a little peeved by the tales of Katrina mismanagement by the American Red Cross, there's always the ICRC. They spread the money around many member organizations (including the American Red Cross).
- Partners in Health — PIH has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years.
- About Yele.org and Wyclef Jean. — I have concerns about this organization, and what I have learned has been moved to its own post. You can read it here.
- @Karoli's References. Always valued in any crisis.
